Next, we would like to introduce Doreen Howell! Doreen will be teaching 1st Grade this fall.

Doreen grew up on the East Coast in New Jersey. She had every intention of moving back home but moved to Clio after graduating college because her best friend married a guy from Clio and asked her to move out here for "one year" since she was new to the area also. Doreen fell in love with Michigan and then after a blind date four years later, fell in love with a boy from Bridgeport and ended up making Michigan her forever home!

Doreen graduated from North Warren Regional High School in Blairstown, New Jersey and then pursued a double major at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio for her undergraduate degrees; one being Elementary Education. She received her Masters in the Art of Teaching with a Reading emphasis from Marygrove University in Detroit, Michigan and has taken continuing college credit classes in both integrating technology in the classroom and behavior management. Doreen has also completed the Orton-Gillingham Phonics First Layer 1 training and is enrolled in a two year program beginning this November to continue learning best practices specifically in Reading and Phonemic Awareness/Phonics.

Doreen has many hobbies from spending time with her family (husband JD, 16 year old son Johnny, 14 year old son James, and 12 year old daughter Danielle), being outdoors (especially the ocean or Great Lakes), watching movies, eating food (especially take out which she has not cooked and there are no dishes to clean afterward), decorating and completing projects around the house, any activity involving her two german shepherds Coco and Clou, and shopping!

A favorite quote of Doreen's would be "Begin each day with a grateful heart." She says she wants to live every day to the fullest, thankful for the many blessings and opportunities a new day brings, and trying to serve her family, friends, colleagues, and her precious students and their families in a way that shows how thankful she is for each new day! She is truly excited to be a part of the Clio Elementary school district as a First Grade teacher this Fall!

IMPORTANT: Due to an unforeseen Sewer Problem the City of Clio has no choice but to close down all traffic heading North on Mill Street. We will close all Northbound traffic at Vienna St, on Wednesday, May 21st at 8:00 AM and keeping the road closed until we finish our repairs. We will be working on the East side of Mill Street just before Roger’s Lodge Drive. We will redirect traffic heading East on Vienna St to Roger Lodge so traffic can then turn right only heading North on Mill Street. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, safety is our top priority for our contractor. Please use the recommended detour for the time being. We will give updates to the public as we get them. Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
