📚✨ Showing Up Makes a Difference! ✨📚
Did you know that missing just 2 days each month adds up to 10% of the school year? That level of absence is considered chronic and can make a big impact.
When students aren’t in class regularly, it’s harder to stay on top of lessons, build lasting friendships, and feel truly connected at school.
✅ Consistent attendance supports growth in reading, math, and beyond.
✅ It builds self-confidence and keeps future opportunities within reach.
✅ Most importantly, it lays the foundation for long-term success.
💡 Families, schools, and communities all play a role in helping students attend every day. When students show up, they set themselves up to thrive—today and in the future!

The Board of Education Meeting scheduled for this Thursday, September 25, has been canceled.

Yesterday, School Board Member Mr. Robert Gaffney, who has proudly served on the Clio School Board for 16 years, was honored with the prestigious 7th Level President's Award from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB). This award recognizes board members who complete MASB’s rigorous leadership training program, actively participate in conferences, and demonstrate years of dedicated service and impactful leadership. To achieve this distinction, Mr. Gaffney completed Levels 1–6 of MASB’s CBA Program, including 29 advanced classes and over 1,383 education credits. Congratulations to Mr. Gaffney on this remarkable achievement and well-deserved recognition of his commitment to education and our community!

📚✨ Every Day Counts! ✨📚
Did you know that students who miss 10% or more of the school year (that’s just 2 days a month) are considered chronically absent?
Chronic absenteeism makes it harder for students to stay on track with learning, build strong friendships, and feel connected at school.
✅ Attending school regularly helps students succeed in reading, math, and beyond.
✅ It builds confidence and keeps opportunities wide open.
✅ Most importantly—it prepares students for their future.
💡 Families, schools, and communities can work together to ensure every student is present, engaged, and thriving. Because when students show up, they grow up stronger! #ClioCares #ClioWantsYouHere #AttendanceAwareness #MakeEverydayCount

Mrs. Wakefield hosted a Day of Coding, where her students led their peers through hands-on lessons in BASIC and Python programming. Using the Texas Instruments Rovers, students coded robots to move, turn, and solve challenges, bringing math to life in an exciting way! 🤖
It was amazing to see students step up as leaders, sharing their coding knowledge and showing how math, technology, and creativity all come together.

We are looking forward to welcoming our mustangs back for their first day of school tomorrow at CHS, CCHS, CMS, CIS and CES!

Next up, we would like to introduce Daniel Retberg! Daniel will be teaching high school Spanish this year.
Daniel is from Frankenmuth, Michigan, but grew up in Medellín, Colombia, where his father served as a missionary. He attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw and later graduated from Northwood University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, and Management. He also holds two master’s degrees from Central Michigan University—one in Spanish and the other in Curriculum and Instruction.
Daniel has traveled to ten Latin American countries and six others around the world. He also just celebrated his 50th birthday! A favorite quote of his to reflect on is: “It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old; they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.”
Daniel is ready to begin this new chapter at Clio Area Schools!
Welcome to the Clio Area Schools team, Daniel! #ThePlaceToBe

Next, we would like to welcome back Christine Lamb! Christine will be teaching kindergarten this year!
Christine was born and raised right here in Clio, Michigan, and graduated from Clio High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Saginaw Valley State University and her master's degree from Marygrove College.
In her free time, Christine likes to read, float in the water at her cabin, and redecorate. Christine shared about her return to Clio: "I retired from teaching in Clio in 2024, after teaching 32 years, but was asked to join the Kindergarten team this year. I am honored to be at CES and can't wait to meet my new students." The theme in her class this year is "Be the Best You!" because, as she explained, "When we are at our best, we can achieve anything!"
Christine is looking forward to working with some gifted kindergarten teachers. She also finds it amazing that she gets to work with her daughter, Marisa Lamb, who serves as the At-Risk-Liaison, every day! Christine also added: "Clio has the best teachers, and I am so proud to be a Clio Alumni!"
