This week, Representative Jasper Martus visited Clio Elementary School to celebrate March is Reading Month with our third graders! He stopped by each classroom to read Thank You, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco and talk with students about the story’s message.
He also shared what he does as a representative, gave a little refresher about the Capitol (our third graders visited in November!), and talked about the kinds of books he enjoys reading. The kids loved hearing from him and were reminded how fun and important reading can be!

Clio Area Schools invites all families to join us for “Disconnect to Reconnect: Spring into Action” on March 5 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Clio High School. This free, districtwide event will feature dinner, bounce houses, mini golf, yoga, games, arts and crafts, prizes (some shown below), and more for students , along with a special presentation from Dr. Rick Ferkel on the impact of technology on mental health and the importance of physical activity.
We look forward to a great evening of fun, learning, and time spent together as a Mustang community!

Classrooms will be filled with themed spirit days, reading challenges, guest readers, fun activities, and lots of extra time spent getting lost in great books. From our youngest learners to our high school students, everyone will be joining in to build strong reading habits and grow as confident readers.
We can’t wait to highlight our students turn pages, set goals, and discover new favorite stories all month long. Let’s make March a chapter to remember! 📖💚

Guest speaker Dr. Rick Ferkel will present on technology, mental health, and physical activity. Childcare, bounce houses, mini golf, games, food, and prizes will make this a fun and meaningful evening for the whole family!

Clio Area Schools is proud to recognize three board members who earned awards from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) in 2025 for their dedication to leadership development and student achievement. These honors reflect their commitment to continuous improvement and service to our students, staff, and community.
Denise Frappier earned the Level 3 Award of Distinction and the Level 4 Master Board Member Award. Lydia Heine received the Level 4 Master Board Member Award. Dawn Renkiewicz was honored with the Level 1 Certified Board Member Award and the Level 2 Award of Merit.
Awards are earned through MASB’s leadership training program, conference participation, years of service, and ongoing leadership activities. These hours are completed in addition to the time board members dedicate to meetings, events, and reviewing policies and materials. Last year, more than 1,800 school board members across Michigan participated in MASB training or professional development workshops.
“I want to take a moment to recognize Denise, Lydia, and Dawn for their hard work and dedication,” said Superintendent Lisa Taylor. “Earning this distinction shows just how committed you are to our students, staff, and community. Your passion and leadership make a real difference every day. Thank you for all that you do.”
MASB Executive Director Don Wotruba highlighted the importance of professional development as schools face increasing demands to innovate and adapt. Training equips board members with the tools needed to make informed decisions that best serve Michigan’s students.
