AdvancedEd/NCA at Carter Middle School

In April 2006, the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE) came together to form one strong and unified organization under the name AdvancED.

Carter Middle School is planning for our first Quality Assurance Review (QAR).  The purpose of the QAR is to:

  • Evaluate the school's adherence to the standards.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the school's improvement efforts.
  • Review performance results and how those results are used to inform improvement

    efforts.

  • Provide high-quality feedback with clear recommendations and actionable next

   steps.

  • Make an accreditation recommendation.

While on site, the Quality Assurance Review Team, conducts interviews with members of the school community, visits classrooms, collects and reviews evidence, and meets to review findings. The team provides an oral exit report to the school, highlighting commendations, opportunities for improvement, and recommendations for action. The team also recommends an accreditation status for the school.

 Education YES

CMS has earned a "B" (89%) in the 2007-2008 school year. With Education YES, schools will now receive grades of A, B, C, D-Alert, or Unaccredited under the new system. This state accountability system is used in Michigan to determine how well a school is performing based on MEAP results and other school characteristics.  Each school is graded on its MEAP achievement and MEAP improvements, as well as 11 other performance indicators. YES is the acronym for "Yardstick for Excellent Schools."

CMS Met AYP

AYP Status (Adequate Yearly Progress) is a measure defined in the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) to hold schools and districts responsible for student achievement in English language arts and mathematics based on state assessment results. AYP must be met for participation, achievement for the school as a whole, and for each student subgroup in which 30 or more students are enrolled.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parental involvement at the middle school level is a vital time to help our students understand the importance of their education which leads to their futures.  Our fall and spring conferences give parents and teachers an opportunity to discuss students' progress.  The following is a four year summary of the percent of parents who attended conferences.
